What is coexisting (repost from old blog)
rehearsing. performing. choreographing. thinking. observing. supporting. talking. getting to know the other dancers. helping to bring out the company's vision in whatever way possible. These are the activities and roles I take as central to being a part of coexistdance. I have had the pleasure of being a part of Coexistdance since it's original inception a few years ago and I must say the original version was very different than our current state of existance. The dynamic shift includes moving the company to springfield, media, and the local suburbs of Philadelphia, performing in charity and outreach programs such as relay for life and CHOP, and engaging community and younger dancers as much as possible. I am constantly impressed by Glynn's bravery in jumping into this new vision - her ability to be specific and confident about her goals through movement art will carry her and our success a long way. I feel that more and more we are representing and exhibiting the title of this loving dance company. As I get to know the new girls in the company, I am struck by the sense of openness and ability to seamlessly transition from sharing thoughts and emotions both positive and negative to rehearsing a piece or working on new movement. Jenn's first post is a perfect example of the texture of this work; there is an acceptance of the ebb and flow of imperfect lives and the use of dance to confront and deal with the emotions that are inevitable in that truth. So, things that coexist: movement art and its audiences, dancers, each other and their choreographer, the trajectory of living and the hope for/in beauty, feet and a hole in the marley, integrity in dance and accessibility to all audiences, difficult times and support, strangers and unguarded honesty. passion and giving.
